Lady Lion Volleyball Splits PSUAC Tri-Meet

McKeesport, Pa. - In a pair of Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) battles, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team went on to take a 3-0 win over Penn State New Kensington before falling to Penn State Fayette, 3-0.

Through the first contest, sophomore setter Courtney Odell Shadd (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) put up 19 assists with two digs, three block assists, one kill and one service ace. Freshman middle hitter Dorina Adou (Kyoto, Japan/Obama Academy) placed ten service aces through the battle with four assists, three kills and a block assist. Junior outside hitter Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) added eight kills with seven digs and one service ace. Junior defensive specialist Emily Taylor (Aliquippa, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter) got up for four block assists with two digs and three kills.

The trio of sets were decided by margins of 25-22, 25-8 and 25-14.

After the win over New Kensington, Greater Allegheny went on to face PSUAC front-runner, Penn State Fayette.

Shadd put up nine assists as Johnston got down for eight digs with four kills and two assists. Adou posted five digs, two kills and a block assist while freshman outside hitter Marina Puharre Selmi (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Objetivo) placed a total of four blocks herself. Junior outside hitter Laura Vazquez-Diaz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cupey Maria Montessori) and Taylor both contributed two blocks each in the second game of the day.

The three sets were decided by tallies of 25-16, 25-8 and 25-15.

The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team (3-5, 2-3 PSUAC) takes a break before they host another PSUAC Quad-Meet. GA is set to face Penn State Schuylkill first at 2 p.m. followed by Penn State Brandywine at 4 p.m.
