Greater Allegheny VB Splits PSUAC Double-Header

McKeesport, Pa. - With a 3-0 loss to Penn State Brandywine and a 3-0 victory over Penn State Schuylkill, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team split the Penn State University Athletic Conference weekend.

Brandywine was first on the day, as the three sets were decided by tallies of 25-10, 25-22 and 25-12.

Junior outside hitter Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) dug 16 times with four kills and a service ace. Junior middle hitter Laura Vazquez-Diaz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Maria Cupey Montessori) got down for 15 digs while adding seven kills. Sophomore setter Courtney Odell Shadd (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) assisted 12 kills while noting seven digs and an ace. Junior right side Emily Taylor (Aliquippa, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter) and freshman middle hitter Dorina Adou (Kyoto, Japan/Obama Academy) matched one another with eleven digs toward the GA efforts.

The second contest brought Schuylkill, where the three sets were decided on margins of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-19.

Shadd put up a season-high 24 assists with five service aces, and one kill. Johnston posted 14 kills beside seven digs, a service ace and an assist. Vazquez-Diaz ripped eight kills with seven service aces and six digs.

Greater Allegheny (4-6, 3-4 PSUAC) goes on the road Sunday for another PSUAC double-header. Mont Alto and York are slated for a 12 p.m. start.
