GA Volleyball Slighted on Senior Night over Chatham, 3-1

McKeesport, Pa. - Battling each set, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team got slighted by NCAA Division III, Chatham University, Tuesday night, by a margin of 3-1.

The one, three and four belonged to Chatham: 25-23, 25-14 and 25-15 as Greater Allegheny managed set two by a score of 25-19.

Freshman libero Hayley Maksin (Port Vue, Pa./South Allegheny) got down for a team-high 32 digs with a pair of service aces and kills. Junior middle hitter Laura Vazquez-Diaz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cupey Maria Montessori) added 25 digs with eight kills, and one service ace.

Freshman outside hitter Dorina Adou (Kyoto, Japan/Obama Academy) surged the GA defense with 22 digs, alongside eight kills and three total blocks. Sophomore setter Courtney Odell Shadd (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) assisted 28 kills while helping out with 16 total digs, two kills and one block.

Junior right side Emily Taylor (Aliquippa, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter) shined with 15 digs, seven kills, one block, assist and service ace. Freshman outside hitter Marina Puharre Selmi (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Objetivo) noted a team-high six total blocks with six digs, three kills and two service aces.

Greater Allegheny noted 13 kills in the second set, assisting in the win.

PSUGA (5-9, 4-6 PSUAC) looks onward to the weekend, as they enter back into Penn State University Athletic Conference action. Saturday brings a Penn State Hazleton Quad-Meet, where Lehigh Valley is set for game one at 2 p.m. and Hazleton afterward, slated for a 4 p.m. start.
