PSUGA Volleyball Returns Home for Match Against PSU-DuBois

McKeesport, PA. – After falling in their final non-conference test on Monday, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Volleyball Team (2-5, 1-0) is back in action on Wednesday when they take on Penn State DuBois (5-3, 2-1) inside the Wunderly Gymnasium at 7 p.m. PSUGA fought hard their last time out, but fell short against Point Park dropping the contest 3-0.

Point Park had control of the match early on taking the first two sets by scores of 25-8 and 25-9 to take an early 2-0 match lead. PSUGA would fight until the end as they have done all season long in the third set going back and forth with Point Park to a 14-13 score midway through the set. However, the deficit was just too much to overcome and they dropped the set 25-18 and fell 3-0.

Kaylee Holtzman (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS), Alix Ellis (Derry, PA./Derry Area HS), and Sueriah Timsah (Mesquite, TX./West Mesquite HS) supplies the offense on the day each finishing with two kills. Seiblesierra Ili (Barstow, CA./Barstow HS) led the team with eight digs and six assists while Kimmy Tinker (Ewing, IL./Benton Consolidated HS) finished just behind her with four digs.

PSUGA now sits at 2-5 on the season and enters play on Wednesday in second place in the PSUAC West Division. They return home where they have had success this season with a record of 2-1 inside the Wunderly Gymnasium. They have won seven of their last 10 sets played on their home court including two 3-0 sweeps over fellow PSUAC member PSU-Mont Alto and United States Collegiate Athletic Association competitor Kent State Tuscarawas.

PSU-DuBois enters Wednesday’s contest on a hot streak coming off of a 3-0 sweep of PSU-New Kensington. DuBois dominated throughout the contest picking up set wins of 25-9, 25-11, and 25-14 on their way to the victory. Allison Easton led the way for the lady lions with 10 kills on 15 total attack opportunities while Keara Shrefler led the defensive side of the ball finishing with 10 digs.

PSUGA has had PSU-DuBois’s number in the all-time series with a record of 13-2 against them. Last season, PSU-DuBois got their first ever victories against PSUGA sweeping the season series with set wins of 3-1 and 3-0. PSUGA is looking to bounce back this year as they make a run at the PSUAC Playoffs.
