The 2019-2020 season marks Alyssa Finocchi's third season as head coach of the PSUGA Volleyball team where she has a record of 19-27 and 9-17 in conference play. Her teams have gotten progressivley better each season as they creep closer to claiming their first Penn State University Athletic Conference Playoff spot since 2014.

In 2018, Finocchi's team picked up a win in their first PSUAC Conference game of the season, but ended up starting just 2-4 in conference play. However, they would hit their turning point at the PSUAC Crossover tournament where they went a perfect 4-0 and got back on track for the second half of the season. They came within two games of clinching a playoff spot but, despite picking up a win in their regular season finale against PSU-New Kensington 3-0, PSUGA missed the playoffs and ended the year 10-14. They improved their win total by two games from the previous season and have a strong young core to build off of.

In 2017, she led the team to an 8-13 overall record including a 6-10 record in conference play. After starting the season just 2-8, Finocchi led her team on a six game winning streak evening their record and putting them right back in the hunt for a Penn State University Athletic Conference Playoff spot. Despite not making the playoffs, they were able to hold their own against some tough PSUAC competition including taking a match to five sets against the eventual top seed Penn State Beaver before dropping the match 3-2.

In her first two seasons as PSUGA's head coach, she has coached three PSUAC All-Conference members and one United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American. Her teams have been in the hunt for the PSUAC playoffs in each of her first two seasons with their fate being determined in the final weeks of the year. 

Finocchi had a 14 year volleyball career that began in elementary school, continued through Baldwin High School, where her senior season team went 14-0 and were undefeated section champions.  Finocchi then continued to Penn State Greater Allegheny to play volleyball for four more years under former PSUGA Volleyball head coach Tracy Gibbs.  Throughout these four years, she was the catalyst that lead the program to the school’s first final four appearance her senior year, with the program’s best overall record of 21-10.

Finocchi holds 14 PSUGA Volleyball all-time program records including the record for Kills (840), Digs (737), and total career points (1,286.5). During her four years, Finocchi acquired numerous accolades on and off the court.  Academically, she participated in the Honors Program for eight semesters, maintained an average 3.4 GPA, and received a scholarship for leadership in the classroom.  Her four-year college career also gained her three First Team All PSUAC Conference awards, seven PSUAC Player of the Week titles, two USCAA player of the week titles, and two USCAA All American awards.  Her favorite accomplishment, however, would be being named the PSUGA Female Athlete of the Year during her senior year.  She ended her PSUGA career with a PSUAC Final Four appearance and completed her Marketing – Management Business degree.

Prior to joining PSUGA Finocchi was the head coach of St. Elizabeth Middle School’s varsity girls’ team, where she helped to improve their record and lead them to a semi-final appearance.
