Women's Cross Country Takes Second Place as Men's Team Takes Third in PSUGA Invitational

McKeesport, Pa. - In the second annual Penn State Greater Allegheny Cross Country Invitational, the women's team went on to place second as the men placed third. The University of Pitt-Greensburg would take first in both races.

Freshman Rachel Ramsey (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) leads the way for the women's cross country team, as she went on to place first overall and set a new course time for the women with a time of 21:59. Freshman Melissa Loftus (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) ran the course in 24:05, finishing sixth. Freshman Kasey Dansak (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport Area) took 10th place with a time of 25:52 and freshman Tammy Bevilacqua (Jeannette, Pa./Jeannette) completed the race in 31:36 at 20th place.

Sophomore Rob Meier (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) completed the men's 8k in fifth place with a time of 30:58. Freshman David Markotan (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) finished 17th place with a time of 35:07 and freshman Jesse Cheek (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) got done just after him with a time of 35:46 in 19th place. Freshman Marcus Slivinski (Plainville, Ct./Plainville) zipped to the finish line with a time of 40:37. Junior David Buckholtz (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership) and Kevin Smith (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) closed the race when they completed the race in 57:53 and 59:44, respectively.

The cross country team will see action again next Saturday as they travel to Penn State Fayette for a conference match-up. The race is set to begin at 1 PM.
