Greater Allegheny Cross Country Competes in USCAA National Championship

Syracuse, N.Y. - Three standout Penn State Greater Allegheny cross country runners qualified to compete in the 2013 USCAA National Championships held in Syracuse, New York, Friday morning.

Freshman Rachel Ramsey (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) and sophomore Shelby Bendick (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) were the two women who competed for GA on the 6k course, which consisted of 146 finishers. Ramsey placed in 13th place overall with a time of 25:28, just short of first place by 2:21. With Ramsey's finish, she earned herself the 2nd-Team All-American distinction. Rachel worked her way to hold the title of achieving the best finish at Nationals in school history, for either male or female competitors. Bendick finished the race strong as she earned 91st place in a time of 30:15.

Sophomore Robert Meier (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) was the lone male competitor for Greater Allegheny. The 8k race held 183 finishers. Meier accomplished 59th place in a time of 31:17, the third best finished amongst PSUAC participants. With Meier's work through the championships, he earned himself the second best finish in male competitor history. The school record still belongs to Pete Subosits, who finished 36th in 2011.
