Sixth Place Finish Continues Leira’s Success
Mont Alto, Pa. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Cross Country team competed at the Mont Alto Invitational on Saturday, getting a chance to look at the 2018 Penn State University Athletic Conference championship track.
Fernando Leira (Madrid, Spain/Great Mills (Md.)) continued his successful 2017/18 campaign coming in with another top 10 finish coming in sixth out of a field of 35 runners with a time of 24:13 over the six kilometer course. Leira finished fourth overall out of the PSUAC runners showing that he can compete with some of the top talent across the PSUAC.
Leira said last week that he wasn’t at his best but he was going to build from it and use it to get better as the championships are approaching. Last week, he finished ninth overall with a time of 31:48 over an 8K course at the PSUGA Invitational. He continues to show off his ability to run a great race and keeps getting better week-by-week.
PSUGA Cross Country continues its schedule next week as they travel to Frostburg State for the Frostburg State Invitational. Leira will continue to use these next couple races to get ready for the PSUAC Championships which will be held on October 28th 2017 on the very same course that they ran on today.
