Kennedy Earns PSUAC Cross Country Runner of the Week Award

State College, PA. – The Penn State University Athletic Conference announced it’s weekly award winners on Tuesday, and Penn State Greater Allegheny’s Eladia Kennedy (Pittsburgh, PA./Imani Christian Academy) has been named this week’s PSUAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. It was a career-week for Kennedy who competed in her final tune-up before the PSUAC Championships on October 26th.

Kennedy competed in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational over the weekend competing against 129 runners from across NCAA Division III and Division II. The race took place in Pittsburgh’s Schenley Park and was the second six-kilometer race of the season for Kennedy, the same distance she will have to tackle in the championship event in two weeks.

After running a 31:55 at the PSU-Mont Alto Invitational, Kennedy came in nearly four minutes faster posting a 27:10.23 at CMU. Kennedy continues to improve race in and race out this season and gained more momentum heading into what will be her biggest race of the season.

The first-time collegiate Cross Country athlete has proven she can be one of the top female runners in the PSUAC when she finished seventh in the PSUAC Championship preview race at PSU-Mont Alto. Kennedy has already qualified for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Invitational in Virginia Beach, VA on November 7th, which will be her second appearance in a USCAA National event since coming to PSUGA last season.

For Kennedy, it is the second time this season she was named PSUAC Women’s Cross Country runner of the week and the second time in her PSUGA Career. The PSUGA Cross Country team has seen the most PSUAC athletes of the week out of any sport so far with three total for the 2019-2020 season.

Kennedy and the PSUGA Cross Country team will return to action on Saturday, October 26th, when they run at the PSUAC Championships. The race will take place at Norlo park in Fayetteville, PA.
