Tough Second Half Leads to Demise of Greater Allegheny Men's Basketball

Edinboro, Pa. - Despite a close first-half, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team dropped a 98-65 decision to Edinboro University, Friday night.

The first half saw stand-out efforts from four GA starters. Junior guard Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) managed to dump ten points and six assists while senior forward Aaron Byrd (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise) dropped 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Chris Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Steel Valley) and senior forward Nick Dizon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) also made their presence known as their achieved seven points combined. The first half ended with Edinboro slightly ahead of GA, 36-32.

Greater Allegheny managed to shoot 32.5% (13-40) from the floor and contributed 40% (2-5) free throws through the first half. Edinboro surpassed GA, as they earned 45.2% (14-31) buckets from the floor and 50% (7-14) of their free throws.

Three Edinboro athletes would come out from half time and earn double digits to contribute to the swelling they underwent through the second half. Edinboro deposited 62 points over the 33 Greater Allegheny contributed in the twenty minutes of play remaining.

Edinboro dropped big numbers through the second half, as they completed 61% (25-41) of their shots from the floor and 55.6% (5-9) from the arc.

Greater Allegheny earned 72.7% (8-11) of their free throw attempts through the second half of play. Addison dropped 22 of the 33 points to try and lift Greater Allegheny, but efforts were not enough.

With the loss, Greater Allegheny falls to 0-4 on the season while Edinboro improved to 2-0.

Addison completed the game with a season-high 32 points and eight assists, while cashing in 8-of-17 three-pointers. Byrd finished the game with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Greater Allegheny next sees action on Saturday, as the men travel to Washington and Jefferson College for a Tip-Off Tournament.
