GA Men's Hoops Suffer Conference Loss over Beaver

Monaca, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team traveled to Penn State Beaver, where GA went on to suffer a Penn State University Athletic Conference loss, 108-82.

Back-and-forth play comprised of senior forward Nick Dizon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) and senior forward Aaron Byrd (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise), as they teamed up to post ten points combined. Sophomore guard Chris Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Steel Valley) hit a ringer of a three-pointer to lift the GA tally up and above their opponent, 13-9. Beaver went on a run before Byrd answered back with five. Byrd, Dixon and Dizon hit a few buckets to conribute toward the mark, but Beaver just continued to make headway. Freshman forward Carl London (Easton, Pa./Coatesville) contributed to the tally before Daiyaan Williams added a jumper. Addison and Byrd consisted of the final scoring drives of the first half, sending the men into the next twenty minutes down 49-35.

Greater Allegheny was down 14 as Addison, Byrd and Dizon battled back to Beaver, as they continued to answer back. Dixon hammered another three-pointer five minutes into the game, closing the gap to just nine. Dizon, Byrd and Williams continued to add marks toward the Greater Allegheny tally despite the growing Beaver lead. Addison dropped eleven points within the last two minutes of play before Byrd grabbed the last bucket with seconds left to play. The deficit was just too much to bare, as Penn State Greater Allegheny went on to fall to Penn State Beaver 108-82.

As a team, the men shot an impressive 86.4% (19-22) from the free-throw line alongside going 44.8% (30-67) from the floor. Turnovers would ultimately be the demise of Greater Allegheny, as Beaver forced 30 and managed to earn 41 points off of those turnovers.

Byrd had a big game, as he posted a double-double of 29 points and ten rebounds. Byrd also completed 90% (9-of-10) shots from the free-throw line alongside making 10-of-19 baskets from the floor. Addison also played well, as he slashed 21 points, eleven rebounds and five assists. He managed to add 6-for-7 of his free-throw attempts and 7-of-17 from the floor. Dizon got up for 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Greater Allegheny (1-11, 0-4) shakes off the loss as they look onward to their last game before winter break. GA hosts Penn State New Kensington for a PSUAC conference match-up in Wunderley Gymnasium; tip-off set for 7 p.m.
