GA Men's Basketball Takes First Home Win of the Season Over DuBois, 95-81

McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team outscored Penn State DuBois in a PSUAC match-up, 95-81, to earn their first home win of the season.

Senior forward Nick Dizon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) answered first on the board, as he hammered down a three-point shot followed by a lone free-throw. Junior guard Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) and sophomore guard Peter Olumese (Switzerland/College du Leman) notch a combined eight points over five minutes to keep GA in the lead. Both freshman newcomer Eric Moody (Philadelphia, Pa./New Media Technology Charter) dropped a huge three-pointer and sophomore guard Chris Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Steel Valley) dropped three-point bombs on DuBois to lift their lead, 18-14. In five minutes, Addison and Dizon combine efforts and drop 12 points to battle with DuBois to re-gain the lead. DuBois' defense slipped as Moody earned another three-pointer and Addison dropped a jumper. Another newcomer, freshman guard Denzel London (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), earned a lay-up before Moody dumped another three-pointer, 40-30. Addison and Dizon added four to close the first half, leading by ten.

Addison, Byrd and Dizon comprised of the first ten minutes of scoring for Greater Allegheny, posting 16. Junior guard Matt Williams slashed a jumpshot and earned his first points as a 2014 GA Lion. D. London completed both free-throw attempts to continue GA's lead, 64-56. Byrd bucketed six consecutive points to keep up with DuBois, as they were battling back. Addison followed up with seven points, one of the marks being a huge break away dunk earned by an Addison forced turnover. Addison, Byrd, D. London and Moody made up the last three minutes of scoring opportunities. The four managed to earn 15 points to ride out the remainder of the contest, Greater Allegheny up, 95-81.

Addison led the way for Greater Allegheny, as the heavy-hitter banked 33 points and got up for 17 rebounds. He blocked four DuBois shots and forced three steals to assist in the takeover. Petrie shot 50% (12-of-24) shots taken from the floor alongside his 63.6% (7-of-11) free-throws completed. 

Byrd played a large roll for GA, as he also notched a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. He completed 75% (3-of-4) of free-throws taken alongside going 37.5% (6-of-16) from the floor. Dizon notched 16 points and five points. Nick was on point with his shots, as he went 66.7% (6-of-9) from the floor, 60% (3-of-5) from the free-throw line and bucketed his lone three-pointer attempted. Newcomers D. London and Moody both were huge assets toward the GA swipe. D. London put up 12 points and five boards alongside shooting 85.7% (6-of-7) from the free-throw line and 50% (3-of-6) from the floor. Moody contributed ten points, six rebounds and six assists from the bench, as he shot 75% (3-of-4) from the three-point line and completed his lone free-throw attempted.

As a team, Greater Allegheny out-rebounded DuBois 53-36. GA forced 24 turnovers and earned 25 points. Contributing to the GA takeover was 36 points in the paint, 21 second chance points and 24 points off the bench. Greater Allegheny led DuBois from the floor, as GA's squad completed 46.5% (33-of-71) of shots taken, as well as completing 41.2% (7-of-17) of three-pointers attempted. The team impressively notched 73.3% (22-of-30) of their shots from the free-throw line.

Greater Allegheny looks to continue their luck as they host Pitt-Titusville on Saturday in Wunderley Gymnasium. Game-time is set for 3 p.m.
