Greater Allegheny Men's Basketball Swipe First Win over WCCC, 84-73

McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team welcomed Westmoreland County Community College to Wunderley Gymnasium, Saturday afternoon, where GA took their first win of the season by a 84-73 decision. 

Greater Allegheny found themselves ahead 17-8 a little over four minutes into the game, as senior forward Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla,/Florida Christian) dumped ten to contribute to the swell. Junior guard Chris Dixon (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley) aced a three before WCCC inched their way closer toward GA.

Contributions from freshman guard Khari Hicks (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian) and senior guard Matt Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter Shoemaker Campus) compiled tallies for the Greater Allegheny offense through the later half of the first 20. Sophomore point guard Denzel Boyer-London (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) added a lay-up to even the score at 34 to send the game into halftime.

Addison advanced GA a layup to open the second half before sophomore forward Carl London (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) posted a layup and one. Hicks put up a layup and a three-pointer to boost Greater Allegheny to a 44-36 lead. Addison and Hicks supplied ten points through two minutes to extend their mark to 54-45, Greater Allegheny.

Freshman forward Tony Patterson-Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Roxborough) recorded six points in just over a minute of action to continue onward with Greater Allegheny's surge.

Five PSUGA student-athletes registered tallies in the final eight minutes of action, as the home team found themselves ahead of WCCC by a score of 84-73.

Addison finished the game with 23 points and 18 rebounds, his first double-double of the season. Boyer-London and Hicks matched one another with 19 points apiece, as they had a combined effort of 14 rebounds. Patterson-Brown deposited ten points and nine rebounds coming off the bench for GA.

Greater Allegheny (1-0) will host a Tip-Off Tournament next Friday and Saturday in Wunderley Gymnasium. GA will see Kent State-Tuscarawas first followed by Pitt-Titusville.
