GA Men's Hoops Falters in a 73-70 PSUAC Decision over New Kensington

New Kensington, Pa. - Coming off of fall break, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team narrowly dropped a 73-70 Penn State University Athletic Conference bout over Penn State New Kensington, Tuesday evening. 

New Kensington jumped out to a 8-0 lead three minutes into the game before senior forward Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) made a jumper. Freshman guard Khari Hicks (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian) also completed a jumper before sophomore guard Denzel Boyer-London (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) added seven, Greater Allegheny trailing 24-11with less than nine minutes before halftime. Freshman guard Tony Patterson-Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Roxborough) completed a jumper as Hicks dumped on four more.

Boyer-London and Patterson-Brown downed a combined seven before Addison, Hicks and Patterson-Brown hit New Kensington with three-consecutive jumpers to bring the tally to 33-30 with three minutes left til half. Hicks added another jumper before junior guard Chris Dixon (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley) slashed a jumper to complete the GA drive at half, New Ken leading 39-34.

Addison and Hicks brought the game within two to open the second half, as the duo downed eleven points, highlighted by a Hicks three-pointer. Boyer-London drained a free-throw as senior guard Matt Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter Shoemaker Campus) posted another. Addison and Williams posted two jumpers apiece before Dixon downed a trey outside the arc to bring the game to a 58-54 Greater Allegheny lead with less than ten to play in regulation.

To keep the lead alive, Boyer-London contributed a jumper before Addison completed a three-pointer, three free-throws and a jumper, GA ahead 68-63 with 1:24 left to play. A three and free-throws added brought New Kensington even at 68 with Greater Allegheny before Hicks aced two free-throws with just ten seconds left to go.  Two late jumpers contributed to the 73-70 New Kensington overtake, giving Greater Allegheny their first conference drop of the season.

Addison finished the game recording another double-double, with 21 boards and 20 points while going 57.1% (8-for-14) from the floor alongside banking 75% (3-of-4) from the free-throw line. Hicks added 19 points with three assists while going 47% (8-of-17) from the floor and cashing in both free-throws attempted. Boyer-London dropped 13 points through the contest, dishing out seven assists and three steals with three boards. Patterson-Brown added eight points, four rebounds and two steals off the Greater Allegheny bench. 

As a team, Greater Allegheny finished 56.5% (13-of-23) of their free-throws taken while adding 16 points on second-chance. The Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up saw just two lead changes.

Greater Allegheny (4-6, 1-1 PSUAC) takes a few days off before hosting a big PSUAC weekend. Penn State Hazleton comes to Wunderley Gymnasium Saturday afternoon as Penn State Lehigh visits Sunday. The men are scheduled to tip-off after the women both days, 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
