Greater Allegheny Men's Basketball Ousted by Carlow, 74-60

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team opened up their second semester of action on the road against Carlow, Thursday night, where GA dropped 74-60.

Senior forward Petrie Addison (Fort Myers, Fla./Florida Christian) was the first to put points on the board in the game, dropping a three-pointer. Freshman newcomer Jashaun Fontanez (Downingtown, Pa./-) posted three foul-shots after getting fouled outside the arc to move GA to a 6-0 lead. Carlow got on the board with a three before freshman guard Khari Hicks (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian) matched him with a trey of his own.

Hicks added a lay-up before senior guard Matt Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter Shoemaker Campus) and Fontanez put up a free-throw each. Freshman forward Eddie Davis (Philadelphia, Pa./-) completed both free-throws to regain the lead for the Lions, 15-14. Fontanez dumped a jumper before Davis added two more free-throws.

Carlow took the lead before Fontanez drained a three-pointer with seven minutes left until halftime. Williams tied the score at 23 with a made free-throw. Freshman guard Terance Wroniak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) bucketed a point from the foul-line as Carlow swelled 37-24. With just a little over a minute until halftime, Hicks made a jumper while freshman forward Tony Patterson-Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Roxborough) dropped four points, bringing the game to a 40-30 Carlow lead at the break.

The home team was the first to cash-in on the new half before Addison slashed a free-throw. Carlow continued to put distance between the two teams through the first four minutes of action. Davis added a free-throw as Hicks put down a lay-up to mark the game at a 47-34 Carlow lead.

Addison and Hicks hammer back-to-back lay-ups before Patterson-Brown downed a lay-up, 52-39 Carlow with less than 13 minutes in regulation. Wroniak and Fontanez surplused a foul shot apiece as Addison and Patterson-Brown matched one another with two points each. Fontanez drained five points to bring the game to a 70-50 lead with just six minutes to go. Wroniak dumped two from the foul line as Fontanez padded on four more points. Patterson-Brown hit a three outside the arc with just a little over a minute remaining. Wroniak capped off the game with a free-throw, finishing the game at a Carlow 74-60, home team triumph.

Fontanez opened up his first game in a Lions jersey with 19 points, as he completed 70% (7-of-10) from the free-throw line. Hicks dropped 11 points with four rebounds, three assists and three steals as he cashed in 37 minutes played through the contest. Patterson-Brown came off-the-bench with ten points, as he noted three boards, three steals and two assists. 

As a team, Greater Allegheny completed 45.7% (21-of-46) of their free-throws attempted while shooting 31.5% (17-of-54) from the floor. GA notched 17 points off of turnovers while adding 20 points in the paint and 20 points off-the-bench.

Greater Allegheny (6-9, 3-3 PSUAC) set to take a weekend roadtrip with the women's basketball team to continue on with Penn State University Athletic Conference play. On Saturday, the men are set for Penn State Mont Alto for a 5 p.m. tip-off. On Sunday, the teams travel to Penn State York, where the men are scheduled to go on after the women, around 3 p.m.
