PSUGA Baseball Looks to Rebound Against Mont Alto

McKeesport, Pa. – After suffering a 13-3 loss at the hands of Point Park on Wednesday, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Baseball Team (5-9, 2-1) is looking to rebound when they take on Penn State Mont Alto (5-9, 1-0) on Friday in doubleheader action starting at 2 p.m. They started Penn State University Athletic Conference play winning two of their first three games against PSU-Fayette and PSU-DuBois.

On Wednesday, PSUGA was able to take the early lead over Point Park leading 1-0 on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. However, Point Park responded by putting up 10 runs in the top of the second and never looking back. PSUGA mustered just two more runs in the game before falling by the final score of 13-3 in seven innings.

Adam Jacko (North Versailles, PA./East Allegheny) led PSUGA reaching base three times finishing 1-2 with two walks and scoring two of his team’s three runs. Pedro Escobar (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) drove in a run going 1-2 with an RBI single, and Dylan Ernst (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport) drove in his 11th run of the season on an RBI groundout in the bottom of the seventh.

The loss moved PSUGA to 5-9 on the season, however they still remain in third place in the PSUAC West Division with a conference record of 2-1. They currently sit behind PSU-DuBois and the team they play on Friday in PSU-Mont Alto. After splitting a doubleheader with DuBois, PSUGA is looking to try and overtake the defending PSUAC Champions.

PSU-Mont Alto comes into Friday’s contest having dropped their last game to Hood College 10-3. After taking an early 2-1 lead, Hood College jumped on Mont Alto scoring two in the second and two in the fifth to take the lead. They would then put the nail in the coffin with four runs in the top of the ninth to go on to the 10-3 win. Hunter Martin led the way for Mont Alto going 2-4 and driving in two of his team’s three runs on the day.

PSUGA owns the all-time series against PSU-Mont Alto with a record of 10-5 dating back to the 2010-2011 season. Last season, Mont Alto ended up besting PSUGA taking two of the three games between the two teams. Ernst played well against Mont Alto a year ago hitting .455 (5-11) with two RBI between the three games.

First pitch for Friday’s Doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m. followed by game two at about 4 p.m. PSUGA’s third game against Mont Alto, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to weather and will be played later in the season.
