Mont Alto, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Baseball Team (6-10, 3-2) split their PSUAC doubleheader action on Friday with PSU-Mont Alto losing the first game 5-4 and coming back to win the second game 5-1. Despite scoring four runs in the first game they were unable to pick up the win before coming back in the second game with a five run performance.

Luke Padezan (Elizabeth, PA./Elizabeth Forward) pitched the complete game in game one and once again got knocked around. In his seven innings of work, he gave up five earned runs on 10 hits. Padezan has had a rough start to the season being unable to find his elusive first win of the season. He was able to hold Mont Alto to just two runs through the first four innings but three runs in the last two innings was enough to best PSUGA in the end.

Josh Arroyo (Tao Alta, Puerto Rico/Levittown Baptist Academy) had his best game of the season going 2-3 with 3 RBI and hitting his first homerun of the season. After driving in two runs on an RBI double in the bottom of the first, he came back with a solo home run in the bottom of the third that at that time pushed the lead to 4-1. However, it wouldn’t be enough in the end as PSU-Mont Alto completed the comeback and earned the victory.

Game two saw another great pitching performance from senior Dan Daly (Glassport, PA./South Allegheny). The senior threw a complete game seven inning effort giving up just one earned run on six hits while walking one and striking out four. Daly has been the most consistent pitcher in the PSUGA rotation and over his last two starts, he has given up just two earned runs in 14 innings of work.

PSUGA fell behind early in this one allowing one run in the top of the second, however, they responded right away with two of their own in the bottom of the second on a two RBI double by Adam Jacko (North Versailles, PA./East Allegheny). PSUGA would add one run each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to complete the victory and the split of the doubleheader.

Jacko finished 1-4 with the two RBI and Arroyo drove in his fourth run of the day with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. The win moved PSUGA back over .500 in conference play where they are now 3-2 and currently sit in fourth in the PSUAC West Division Standings.

They will look to make up some ground when they are back in action on Tuesday against Penn State Fayette when they play a doubleheader at Pullman Park in Butler, PA. Game one is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. followed by game two at about 9:30 p.m.
