Soccer Drops Opener at Mount Aloysius

Cressen, Pa – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer (0-1, 0-0) dropped its opener on Thursday September 7th as they fell to Mount Aloysius six to two in Cressen, Pa. the match was the first chance for first year head coach Dale Odim to see what his team has moving forward.

Penn State Greater Allegheny managed two goals in their season opener, one on an own goal and the other coming via a penalty kick, against Mount Aloysius. The team fought hard but it just wasn’t enough in the end as they suffered their first loss of the 2017/18 season. The soccer team plays its first four contests on the road in 2017/18 before coming home on September 24th for their home opener.

Coach Odim traveled with 16 players to Mount Aloysius and all 16 got a chance to play in the ballgame giving each a chance to show what they had. The three captains leading Penn State Greater Allegheny into battle were Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa/Baldwin), Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, Pa/Baldwin), and Nick Andrews (Penn Hills, Pa/Serra Catholic).

Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer starts the season off 0-1 in their quest to capture their fourth consecutive Penn State University Athletic Conference playoff berth dating back to the 2013/14 season. Coach Odim brings his many years of soccer coaching experience to Penn State Greater Allegheny as he looks to bring his team together.

The Soccer team will continue its road stretch of schedule as they travel to Penn State Mont Alto next Saturday at 1 p.m. for their first conference game of the season. They will return home on Sunday September 24th for their first home contest of the season.
