Women’s Basketball Takes on PSU-New Kensington

McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s Basketball Team (9-7, 7-3) is coming off one of their best performance of the season on Friday and have won their last three games. They look to keep the momentum going when they battle Penn State New Kensington (0-0, 0-0) on Monday at 6 p.m.

PSUGA won their third straight game on Friday when they defeated PSU-Scranton 81-45. It was a record setting game for two of PSUGA’s offensive stars as Tina Clybourn (Pittsburgh, PA./Brashear HS) and Tearia Hartley (East Stroudsburg, PA./East Stroudsburg North HS) led the way throughout the night pacing the PSUGA offense.

Clybourn finished with nine three-pointers and a career high 34 points in the win. She tied the record at halftime with six threes at halftime. She broke the record just a few minutes into the second half when she took the feed from Hartley and nailed it from 25 feet out to put PSUGA up 55-27. The attention would then turn to Hartley who scored the first triple-double of the season for PSUGA finishing with 10 points, 18 assists, and 10 rebounds helping her team to the 81-45 win.

PSUGA has now won each of their last three games and are holding on to the second spot in the Penn State University Athletic Conference West Division with a record of 7-1. Their magic number to clinch a playoff spot is three as they try to make the tournament for the first time since the 2013-2014 season.

For PSU-New Kensington, they are beginning their first year of Women’s Basketball on campus. They will get their first test against one of the top teams in PSUAC and with a roster of eight they are trying to establish a program that will last for years at PSU-New Kensington. They are led by seniors Erika Finn and Britney Woford who look to provide the necessary leadership for a young team.

Tip-off for Monday’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. as PSUGA will go on the road for the third time in the first five games of 2019.
