Offense Continues to Roll in Victory Over New Kensington

New Kensington, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s Basketball team (10-7, 7-1) continued to flex their offensive muscles on Monday night when they took down Penn State New Kensington (0-1, 0-0) 87-22. Throughout the course of their four game winning streak, they have rode the backs of their two offensive leaders and Monday was no different.

Tina Clybourn (Pittsburgh, PA./Brashear HS) helped PSUGA get things started leading her team on a 7-2 run to start the game hitting five of the seven points. Those would be the only two points that the PSUGA defense would give up over the first ten minutes of the game and PSUGA would find themselves ahead 22-2.

It would be more of the same in the second quarter as PSUGA’s offense once again put up a 21 point effort in the second quarter and went into halftime leading 43-8. Clybourn led the way with 16 points  and two of her team leading four three-pointers in the game. Not too far behind her was PSUGA’s other offensive leader Tearia Hartley (East Stroudsburg, PA./East Stroudsburg Norths HS) who had 15 at halftime.

PSUGA officially put the game away in the third quarter when they put up 26 points, including seven from Hartley that extended their lead to 69-15 and they would end it with 18 more points in the final ten minutes to seal the deal. With the win, PSUGA continues their role winning their fourth straight game.

Clybourn led the way with her second straight 30+ point game scoring 32 points and picking up seven steals in the win. Hartley followed right behind her with a season high 26 points to go along with a team leading 11 steals. Three total players scored in double digits and all eight players who dressed for PSUGA scored at least two points in the win.

While Monday’s win did not count towards PSUGA’s conference record, it was another big win on the road to the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs. Their magic number remains at three and with a big stretch of games coming in the beginning of February, PSUGA will be tested as they continue their treck towards the playoffs.

PSUGA returns to action on Friday when they go on the road to take on Penn State York with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m.
